Bundesweit Demonstrationen gegen TTIP und CETA am 17.9.2016 – hier Bilder aus Berlin – picture subtitles in English

Berlin, Alexanderplatz + Friedrichshain (Demotour), 17.09.2016

Photographer: Anna Panek

Starter picture: official head section of the demonstration with pittoresque Fernsehturm am Alexanderplatz in background

Second starter picture:

dsc_0089

As you can see, the official head is still not the very first part of the event. Farm tractors (ecological farming) from Brandenburg and that one guy on the bike on the left seems to be a beekeeper selling GM-free honey and to be rather pissed.

DSC_0062.JPG

These guys have fun, but… where’s the rest of them?

DSC_0056.JPG

We would have loved to book a helicopter to show you a better picture of that entire demo participants number, but… would you, dear visitor, have paid it? – So, this climbing here is as far up as the photgrapher could go for you. Should give an hint anyway…

OK, now after these spotlights, here come the albums with details. We’ll pack the pictures in more albums than one this time, they take too long to load otherwise.

Photobombed portable potty: Citizen initiative fighting against privatization of the Mauerpark and gentrification of surrounding areas prepare for a demonstration

Copyrights for these pictures were granted to us by a neighbour of the Moritzhof in Berlin. Owner of the professional photo bomber visible in these pictures lent the trained animal for this photo shooting with explicit approval and was presented the pictures before publishing. Same procedure here also: contact us first if you’re interested in using one of these pictures, especially if you’re not part of a citizen initiative related to this gallery but interested in editorial use (which is the only one we agree to) for an estalished medium instead.

Place where these pictures were taken: Berlin 10437, Kopenhagener Straße, Gleimstraße, Schwedter Straße, Mauerpark and surrounding areas.

Time pictures were taken: November 2014, days before the demonstration announced in the visible posters happened (which coincidentally overlapped the days around the Berlin Wall Fall 2014 anniversary light installation happening)

Light Installation at former Berlin Wall for anniversary that overlayed former November pogrom memorial day – Nov 9, 2014

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

On Nov 9th, 2015 Berlin was celebrating 25th annuary of Berlin Wall’s fall with a light installation. The celebrations were huge. So huge and packed that owners of animals like the one in the picture had serious trouble to find a place to pee for their four-legged family members. There are a lot of four-legged family members in this city (area where these pictures were taken included). But this is just an additional teardrop, adding to the fact that these celebrations fused forgetfulness while overlaying the former november pogrom night memorial day (“Kristallnacht“). Which is why we counter in this very text line with a Kristallnaach memorial link. The singer of this song may be not among us anymore, but the topic is unfortunately more vivid than ever. (An a bit louder Kristallnaach version ist here, a studio version.)

Place where pictures were taken: Berlin 10437, Schwedter Straße nearby crossing with Gleimstraße and Gleimstraße on western part of the tunnel, with a view to the East. The pale white dot you see in the tunnel picture is one of the light installation lamps.

Time pictures were taken: November 2014, days surrounding the light installation happening

Nobergida / Nopegida Feb 2, 2015

Content provider: apk

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

Protest against Pegida (Bergida in Berlin), starting at Brandenburger Tor, then heading to the closest place possible to the Kanzleramt (Office of the Federal Chancellor) while still having a protest against Bergida as a focus (the area around Kanzleramt was not totally closed yet by the police at the beginning of the protest, it would have been possible to simply stay there and make it harder for Pegida/Bergida to get there at all, but it was a protest against them, which is why the protestants headed to Hauptbahnhof instead – where the “Pegidesians” arrived).

Barricades between both protests, way to the Kanzleramt was made free by police forces, protests were accompanied all the time by the voices against them.

Reason why there are no more pictures given by the photographer was the same as for Jan 26. We quote: “it of course started to snow then”. (We have those snowy night protest pictures here, might upload them too some day. Look funny.)

Nobergida (Berlin variant of Nopegida, counter protests against Pegida [or Bergida in Berlin]) and no, the protest did not consist of two people. These are just the pictures that were chosen due to the fact that sun goes down early in the Berlin winter and then it additionally started to snow, so the other pictures we’ve seen from this event look more interesting for artists than for editors or editorial content readers. (Which does not mean that we won’t include them in a second gallery for this event one day.)

When did this event take place: Jan 26, 2015

Where: Berlin, on the side of the Brandenburger Tor where the Tiergarten isn’t (Pariser Platz).

Burnt bed of an immigrant without a roof: Aug 2, 2015 Berlin

content provided by: apk

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

Place where these pictures were taken: Berlin, between Schwedter Steg and Norweger Straße, under Bridge below Behmstraße

Taken when: Aug 2, 2015

Background: to be linked here as soon as we have something. Content provider said the person seemed to be an immigrant from Spain or maybe Greece or Italy. He took care to make it visible he knows how to eat with spoon and fork, made them clean, put them on a clean serviette and left the place. Sometimes there was an apple laying aside of the serviette. One day the place looked as you see in the pictures. BSR (Berlin’s city cleaning service company) take mats away, they don’t burn them. (Well, and the immigrant will hardly have burned his own bed, added just as a side note to people with their heads currently somewhere else than on their shoulders.)

Gallery 2: Grün statt Groth: Berlin Moritzhof/Stadtbauernhof at the former Wall in Berlin, nearby the Mauerpark

Photographer and pic copyright: Anna Panek

Note this gallery is a slideshow. Give us a hint if your browser version does not show it, we’ll work on that then.

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

Content description: collection of pictures of a pretty nicely done and pretty huge transparent hanging on the wall of the “Moritzhof”, a “Stadtbauernhof”* in Berlin directly at the former Berlin Wall. Those Berlin tourists on bike you see in the last picture are being shown where the wall was standing and coincidentally get a perfect view at the transparent at the very same time. The area around is under some stress currently. The Mauerpark was supposed to be way larger than the current plans. Some Mr. Groth has managed to drain rather huge sums of money from public cash boxes. Now he is building something in direct neighbourhood of the Moritzhof. People are grumpy, especially as they would have preferred some good shelters or flats for refugees right where he builds now, instead of just another profit collection for Groth. Plus, the rest of the area is endangered now, too. Note that trains deporting jews in world war II times were departing from the train station that was not far away from the picture you see (“Güterbahnhof der Nordbahn” or sometimes “Nordbahnhof”). There could be a commemoration park there. Instead – according to all currently available evidence – Groth seems to still plan some palaces there. The area in dispute was once promised to the people fighting for this public space. The Berlin Senat found ways around fulfilling this given promise. People are grumpy and seem not to prepare for giving up that easily. Future will tell how this (hi)story will be written on.

Place: Berlin 10437

Crossing between Schwedter Staße and Kopenhagener Straße

Pictures were taken: Autumn 2015 (and the transparent was still there when a certain Nullnummer car parked a few months later less than 10 meters away from the Berlin tourists you see in the pic. Let’s give the person in this certain Nullnummer car a chance to see what s/he might have missed while being “busy with something else” according to the driver).

*a “Stadtbauernhof” is a city farm – an educational farmyard for kids, one of many in the city but with a special history as you may imagine when you see a city farm standing right at the former Berlin Wall.
